Origins
The Bengal is a relatively new hybrid breed of cat, formed by the cross of a domestic feline and an Asian Leopard. Bengal cats have wild looking marking, such as large spots, rosettes and a light white belly and a body stucture reminiscent of the Asian Leopard cat (Prionailurus bengalensis). The bengal cat has a desirable wild appearance with a gentle domestic cat temperament In 1963 Jean S.Mills an American genetician crossed an Asian leopard with a black American shorthair. From that crossing the first hybrides were born F1 and F2 To be caled a Bengal cat it as to be more then 4 generations Sine 1963 a lot of work has been put in to keep the wild look of the Leopard but the sweetness of the domestic cat We had to wait in 1985 for Jean S.mills to present one of her cat in an exposition The succes for the breed was immediate and TICA accepted the breed in 1986 and authorised to put them in championship in 1991
